Post Doctoral Positions in Gene Drive and Genetic Vector Control
Two post doctoral positions are available immediately to study novel genetic control methods and gene drives for disease vector control. This work aims to create anti-pathogen effector and genetic drives systems to control Zika, dengue and other vector-borne diseases. This project will be conducted in the laboratory of Dr. Omar Akbari and is part of a large, interdisciplinary, collaborative study with members throughout the University of California system. Candidates with experience in molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, developmental biology or related fields are encouraged to apply. Experience in gene editing and molecular approaches to population control of mosquito disease vectors is ideal. Knowledge of CRISPR-base mutagenesis and DNA cloning and editing skills are essential and previous experience of working with mosquitoes and/or Drosophila is a plus.
This is a full-time position available for up to 2 years, with the possibility of extension. Salary is based on the UC salary scale and candidate qualifications.
Applicants should have a PhD degree in genetics, molecular biology, developmental biology or a related discipline, and have demonstrated excellence in at least one of the above areas as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
